Re: “Flavorful

Sounds like an interesting place, and it's nice to see an article about something besides booze!

Re: “Top Shelf Predator

(Sigh) Another alcoholic beverage promotional piece...oh, but it's for a good cause, right? "...to raise awareness of the need for habitat conservation and preserving the character of southern Arizona." What "character" is that? The one that the Native population bestowed on the area by living lightly on the land? Or the one that limits development just enough to allow rich, mostly non-Native homeowners in the foothills to preserve their views and property values?

Re: “Independent Spirit

Reading this article reminded me of the old saying “Whatever a patron desires to get published is advertising; whatever he wants to keep out of the paper is news.” Do the Weekly's editors regard the recent proliferation of bars, (aka "craft breweries and distilleries") in Tucson to be a good trend? If so, they should instruct Adam Borowitz and anyone else who writes about the subject to elucidate why that would be so. I can't imagine one's life being so empty that one would start caring about the flavor combinations in which one's booze could be served.
I dearly hope that the cannabis legalization effort will be successful come Election Day. Perhaps it will have a beneficial side effect of taking some business away from the excessively popular alcoholic beverage merchants in this city. More potheads and fewer drunks would be a blessing.
Also, Mr. Borowitz should know that his casual comparison of bartenders to professors is an egregious misuse of the title: A professor is a rank to which many aspire, but few attain. It is only achievable by those who have earned a doctoral degree and have made significant contributions through teaching, research, publication and other forms of service to their employers and to their fields of study.

Re: “Independent Spirit

Chow is a breed of dog. I strongly suggest you just report on dogs with blue tongues on the Chow page. Seriously :-)

Re: “Independent Spirit

OK. I just have to say that Chow is for FOOD, not BOOZE. I strongly suggest that you create a separate page for local drinkeries, and just report on food on the Chow page. Seriously. Fifty percent of the time, Chow comments on breweries, etc.

Re: “A Taco Welcome

Jiggers Firebirds is overpriced shit for piece of shit people who want to flaunt their egos at your crappy restaurant. You could serve them marked up McNuggets and they would only come there so they can show off to their friends that look I eat at this overpriced POS. Take your 15 years and shove it. Jimmy Hula's is only there for one thing. College kids. They don't know shit except to waste mommy and daddy's money. The true test is if any of those 4th ave congress businesses survive summer vacation when the kids are gone. Go ask crappy Obon how was their business during that time. Hurting they would tell you Lol.

Re: “Neighborhood Nosh

How come you didn't mention Roadhouse Theatre? You don't have to see a movie to eat there. They even have lunch specials, and their burgers are the best in town!

Re: “Best of Benin: Alafia

This article is spot on! Everything Alafia serves is fantastic. It's food you think about for a long time after. The memory will cross your mind unexpectedly throughout the next month, calling you back.

Thank you Adam for writing this story and thank you everyone for reading and commenting on this article. We are excited to open in Tucson using local investment money and to provide 30+ local jobs. We understand and accept we cannot please everyone, but just the same, we hope you all will be open minded, visit our establishment when we open this holiday season and try some fish tacos.

Re: “A Taco Welcome

I was part of the team that opened Firebirds at La Encantada mall, countless people told us we wouldn't last a year, but almost 15 years later, guess what? Might not be your favorite restaurant, but Firebirds is still there and going strong. Point is, these guys know they can't make everybody happy, but given their location, clearly they are no dummies, this place will do just fine whether you like it or not.

Re: “A Taco Welcome

The location is torn up beyond recognition and no work is happening at all... We'll see when an opening actually occurs. In the meantime, I agree with chow reader... How about promote something that actually exists?

Re: “A Taco Welcome

Adam, why are you promoting a restaurant that might be open in three months when there are hundreds open now? What a waste.
