Re: “47 Scott

This is one of the places we think of when introducing friends to downtown dining. Casual but hip, well-prepared dishes, and a friendly staff. Favs are the mac & cheese, and steak frites.

Re: “La Cocina de Gabby

Tried their Sunday Taco-bar buffet. Mexico City-style, slow-cooked, full-flavored meats are exceptional. Weekday menu excellent. One of the best shredded beef chimichangas I have eaten! Great fresh food totally prepared in Gabby's kitchen, even the chips. If you like good, simple food, check it out. I am going back for the buffet for sure.

Re: “Barrio Brewing Company

Great food and unless something has gone horribly wrong since my last visit, perfectly good beer. Will check it again on my next visit, but have always found their beers quite tasty (and I'm a beer judge!)

Re: “Mays Counter Chicken and Waffles

Just went there in mid-June, 2011. Wasn't sure about fried chicken and waffles, but both are very well done! I had the chicken breasts and they were so moist, and very large. The waffles are very egg and the maple syrup delicious. I would give 5 stars except that I think they should put more vegetables on the menu. This is not authentic Southern food, but it's just a step away (substitute hush puppies for waffles...). So Southern vegetables such as mustard greens, carrots, squash, collard greens, would round out the meals nicely. I gather they have okra, though I missed it on the menu.

Re: “Falafel King

We had food delivered to our office for a luncheon and were very pleased. We ordered a combo chicken and beef schwarma, greek salad, humuus, tabbouleh, baklava, pita bread, sauces, etc. The food was hot, well seasoned, plentiful, good value and on time. Even folks who weren't sure they liked Lebanese food thought it was delicious. We are ordering again this week.

Re: “La Olla

La Olla isn't your average run of the mill Mexican restaurant like all the others in town. So far we found their meals to be tasty with a slightly different flare to them. The refried beans are by far the best we've had in Tucson. Lunch prices are really cheap too. We're not saying we love everything here, the chili rellenos aren't great. Like most places, they're pretty small. But overall this place is a nice welcome.

Re: “Guadalajara Grill West

Great margaritas, especially at happy hour. Love the fresh salsa, and the enchiladas de calabacitas are excellent!

The parking lot is overflowing every time I drive by, the secret must be out.

Re: “The Cup Café

Had my daughter's birthday celebration at the Cup in April and as usual, we loved it! Great food, relaxed service and that great "downtown" experience!

Re: “Barrio Brewing Company

Loved the beer, I don't understand what everyone's complaining about. It was great, and the service was top notch. The food was pretty good, but I thought the IPA was one of the best I've ever tried. Each to their own, I suppose.

Re: “Dry River Company

Great place to sit and have a pizza. There used to be a really bad bakery in this location. The appetizers are incredible and the pizza sublime. We had the oven-baked garlic clove and it is incredible! I live in Phoenix and can't wait to get back there again.

Re: “Something Sweet Dessert Lounge

Their desserts are amazing, and their specials will sometimes blow your mind. Their staff has always been very friendly every time I've gone in. To accentuate the laid-back atmosphere, they have games you can play, or you can bring your own. They also have a great selection of hot teas, along with the standard milk selection. Sometimes you have to wait a while to get a table, and sometimes it takes a little bit to get your stuff, but that's because they're always busy with people who know just how amazing they are.

Re: “Char's Thai

Some dishes are a bit oily and they certainly don't use the best cuts of chicken or pork. You'll come across a little gristle here and there. Even so, this place offers some real tasty dishes. The curry is very good as are a few other items. Pleasant servers. Prices are very competitive too. With its few minor faults, this place remains one of the better Thai restaurants in town.

Re: “Bazil's

Pizza here is fantastic. Thin crust Chicago style. I love the turkey sausage he makes, and the shrimp and artichoke specialty pizza is delicious!!

Re: “Jax Kitchen

Love Jax. It is one of our favorites on the the north side. Food is simple, relaxed and perfectly prepared every time. The quality is there on the plate! Brian is a sharp restauranteur and his focus on detail, quality and a truly comfortable atmosphere is what keeps us coming back again and again.

Re: “Bookmans

Best thing about this Bookmans is the vast selection and funky staff. Plus you can go next door to get coffee, sandwiches, and/or a chocolate to die for cake. There is also wifi, so why not? Of course you're not going to get many new releases here, but you can always trade them in here. And since I'm an audiobook fan, let me put in a plug for those who have yet to try them. This is a good place to find some classics and full cast audiobooks for car and home. Once you're hooked, you'll be downloading them regularly. --J.L. TowerReview.com

Re: “Sanders Galleries

Sanders Galleries is home to Ka've Bowls. If you've not seen these bowls, they are unique wood turnings created by local artist Dave Dosh. The bowls are exquisite works of art, created from natural and dyed woods which are often inspired by Dave's travels around the world.
