Re: “Music Box

This place is crazy fun. Im not too much of a dive bar kinda guy, but my friends convinced me to head out and it was a trip. Everyone was there from college kids, to cowboys, to gangstas to businessmen, it was awesome!

Re: “The Flycatcher

El Camino Royales--the best! You shouldn't miss them. Good music to do Lindy Hop, East and West Coast.

Re: “Rialto Theatre

Bad Religion brought the house down at the Rialto Theatre last night. Knowing very little of the music and history of the band did note dissuade me from attending what I consider the best Rialto performance in 2010. Not sure if that means I need to get out more often or just listen to punk rock on a regular basis. Regardless, the members of BR have been touring for more than 25 years. Their sound is tight, loud and direct. There were very few mishaps in the performance, although some songs off the new album created a lull in the crowd, creating a well deserved rest for those brave souls in the mosh pit. The crowd was raucous as ever and the band kept it's rhythmic, thumping, swirling grooves at a fist pumping rate. All while diving in and out of double bass drum kicking beats and looping punk rock riffs sprinkled with enough heavy chunks of loud guitar wailing to keep the entire audience awake for a good 2 - 3 hours after the show with the continual ringing in the ears of those Tucsonans that were brave enough to attend a Monday night punk rock show in the historic Rialto theater.

Re: “Brat's Bar & Grill

We went there last month and checked out the band, Section 8 Trio. The place was sorta laid back but the band was hot. The bartender was great, the place was clean.
I reccomend you should check it out especially if those guys are playing there!!

Re: “The Bashful Bandit

This is great venue for bands to play. The staff is very respectful of the musicians, it's just nice to be treated like an artist instead of a human jukebox. Always a diverse crowd, great drinks, and a very fun relaxed atmosphere.

Re: “Vaudeville

All 3 DJs play vinyl-only obscurities from the 70's & 80's: Disco, Post-Punk, Coldwave, Synthpop, Electro, Italo, Early Industrial & Goth, 80's Detroit Techno & Chicago House. A veritable smorgasbord of synthetic weirdness to please the kiddies. Dancing is encouraged.

Re: “November Bar and Cabaret

if you are a dive connoisseur then this is a must see. this is perhaps the best dive tucson has to offer. I went last night for my first time. I quickly learned that the best seats in the house face away from the stage... let me explain.

The bar is fairly complete and they have 2 pool tables that are in decent shape. The decor is very 70's... cheap paneling, amber glass covered light fixtures, booth seating, and concrete floors.... in the back corner there is a stage... The whole bar is well lit except for this corner so its almost like its not there... in fact there are few convenient places to sit where you can see the stage without turning.. The mens room smelled slightly worse than the los reales landfill and the odor spilled out into the bar every time anyone opened the door....(note... don't sit near the bathroom)

There were 5 girls working.... one was the bartender/owner... she wasn't dancing nor was she in a bikini or anything so I won't count her(incidentally she was by far the best looking). of the remaining 4, 1 was obviously pregnant, 1 was obese, 1 was wearing lots of makeup and sunglasses to hide her age... and the last one was decent looking but stayed outside in the smoking area the whole time and never came in to dance. The girls don't get topless on the stage, and I was not adventurous enough to go to VIP so I don't know what happens in there. Occasionally a girl would go up to the stage and dance... and they were generally fairly skilled gogo dancers.. but I once or twice had to question their overall motivation. At one point the girl with sunglasses went to sleep in one of the booths.

the patrons were a very blue collar crowd... well.. crowd is a lil bit of an overstatement... there were only maybe 15 customers(on a friday night at prime time). The average age was around 30. Nobody was mouthing off which was fairly relaxing after going to the traditional college haunts for the last few years.. I certainly wouldn't go in there lookin for trouble but I didn't feel the slightest bit unsafe.

Honestly... I had fun and will go back... its a dive bar for true dive bar fans... without the girls... without the bathroom.... without the crappy seating... it would just be another neighborhood bar.

Re: “Ric's Café

Plesant, upscale atmosphere, reasonable prices and good music on weekends. A bit too much fried food and I am not eating anything with green lips (mussels.) The salads are boring lettuce and black olives out of a can. This restaurant can do better than that! Ric's is for diners who want to be able to have a conversation and not have to shout over the music. The night I was there Cool Breeze was playing and the cozy atmosphere was just right while rain poured down outside. Ric's appears to be a popular neighborhood spot and no doubt many regulars are at home here.
Waiters rush diners by bring the check before asked. I had to tell the waiter I was not finished and wanted to order hot tea. Ric's can do better than this too!
I will go back and avoid the salads, fried food and waiters eager to have diners depart.
