Re: “AJ's Fine Foods

Hmmm. Could have been a wonderful experience but too much crammed into too little space. A little too aggressive selling wine and the aisles are a bit narrow. Variety is okay but not everything is of the best quality, i mean c’m if you’re gonna sell truffle oil couldn’t you have chosen a good one?
Meat department shines but all their pork has been brines but if you like spending money on salt water, go for it. BUT, too much of the meat is dry packed disallowing any real butchering or options with regard to fat - the main component of flavor in meat. They try but they just don’t have the goods. Now that there is a REAL Whole Foods in town they will need to pick up their game.
There ARE independent butchers and fishmongers in town that put this place to shame.
Their produce is well waxed and geometrically piled but has very little variety. Where exactly do I find Escarole or Rapini?
Too bad one can not award half stars because it honestly only deserves two and a half from me.

Re: “El Charro Café Sahuarita

Nothing wrong with it being in Sahuarita...we need more sit down places to eat. I was thrilled to hear they were coming to Sahuarita. Hubby works at the PCC campus downtown and he and some of his instructers go to the original El Charros from time to time and he is always talking about it. I was a bit dissappointed, the tables were to close together. The food is so so...although I do like the original taco...they are made like I was taught to make the...beef patty and tortilla are fried together...they can keep their lettuce salad topping. I prefer shredded lettuce onions , tomatoes and cheese for my toppings..not a salad mixture with peas ans radishes. We have visited three times...I prefer Manuels local Mexican resturant. Sure would love to see and Italian or seafood eateries here in Sahuarita.

Re: “New Delhi Palace

New management and maybe chefs. Not as good as in the past.

Re: “Luke's Italian Beef

These places could use a good scrubbing, but must be ok with
the health department. Have been to Luke's on Ft Lowell as well
as the one on Grant. Big difference in the amount of meat put onto
the sandwiches. Ft. Lowell site knows how to load up the bun,
much more stingy at the Grant location. The Italian Beef is
fantastic!!

Re: “HUB Restaurant and Creamery

Excels at late-night bar snacks--try the ranch fries! Beer selection is decent, though not anywhere near as deep as that of other local joints.

However, falls short as a sit-down dinner venue. Meats were served lukewarm over several visits, and generally seemed to have been prepared well in advance of the order. On our most recent visit, our waiter, while initially helpful and prompt, seemed distracted. He vanished shortly after taking our order, and we never saw him again.

We may be back for a drink and a snack, but probably not for dinner.

Re: “Amereno's Little Italy

A bit on the pricey side with above average food. The service was outstanding and a nice clean atmosphere. The Veal dish that I had was Good (but a tiny bit salty) and the Sauce on the Spaggetti tasted like it was from a can.
This place is a nice date place with a nice romantic setting.

Re: “Toni's Family Restaurant

Standard diner fare, ate there twice. First had the chicken fried steak breakfast, very good, thin large steak cooked old fashioned style on the flat top vice deep frying, asked for scrambled eggs soft and that's how I got them. Second time, burger platter, asked for medium, done right! Fries were so hot and fresh I burnt my fingers at first. Super fast delivery, almost no waiting and they were busy. Only complaint was the waitress reeked of cheap perfume, but I guess that's a diner!

Re: “Elle Wine Bistro

Okay but the food was underwhelming. When we went the waitstaff seemed to lack training. Lighting and table location was odd.

Re: “La Cocina de Gabby

Not fancy but with really well made food. The menu is limited, which in this case, is good, as every thing is home/scratch made. Service is very freindly albeit bit slow, but after a Margarita or two, who cares. This could become a very nice neighborood cantina.

Re: “Bubby's Chicago Style

Friendly servers but other than that we really weren't impressed with the food. Having lived back east we had great dogs and deli food. Want a really great hot dog? Try a simple Sabrret, Coney Island or Nathan's dog with just a few of the standard toppings. This way you'll actually be able to taste the product. Jalapenos, pickles, mayo... Forget it!

In any case, I wish the business well. However, even with the new on/off ramp now being open the location is unlikely to draw lots of patrons. Let's hope their lease is reasonable. As a former business owner, I know all too well how many hands, (taxes, worker's comp., electric bill, etc..), are in your pocket every month. It's tuff making it.

Re: “El Charro Café on Broadway

I only gave them three stars, because they put cheese in their guacamole! It is always a sign of bad guacamole when restaurants/suppliers try to stretch out their guac with cheese or sour cream. A little more authenticity would go a long way!

Re: “Lovin' Spoonfuls Vegetarian Restaurant

Hello Nate1980, While your intent may be good, you apparently either have too much free time, or you're a frustrated writer. By the way, you do write well. In any case, one or two-liner comments are usually adequate to express one's take on a restaurant experience. For example. Bottom Line: Every time we come to restaurant X the service is awful, but we like the food. Unless one is an exceptional and unbiased writer, multiply paragraph rates have virtually no place here, in my meaningless view.

Re: “Luke's Italian Beef

We like the meatball subs. Really tangy red sauce. In fact, so tangy (acidic) you may find yourself reaching for the tums afterwards. Our only gripe is that a meatball sandwich should come with cheese. Come on Luke. Meatball parmigiana!

Re: “Epic Café

The place is nice and laid back. It is great to be able to watch people go by in one of the few areas where there is actual foot traffic in this city. However, sometimes I feel as if the staff are a little prejudiced toward what I call the "hemp-necklace" crowd and can be quite dismissive toward people who don't wear the badges of their little alternative society, such as ragged clothes, multiple piercings, and tattoos.

Re: “BrushFire BBQ Co.

We finally went here and both had combo plates with chicken and pulled pork. Verdict: The meats were just so so. Brush Fire lacked that quality, fresh-cooked favor you'd expect at better BBQ houses. The meats were rather soggy and their sauces do little to make things taste better. In fact, we'd advice you to order your meat without sauce. This way it won't be swimming in it. Simply add your own afterwards. And the sides? OK but nothing to write home about. But at just $10.50 a plate, we can't complain too much.

Re: “Glass Onion Cafe

We used to stop in to grab coffee on our way to work quite a lot. Owner was nice, but so chatty that it kind of got on our nerves...so we didn't go in as much. The last time we did stop in, she must have been in a bad mood, because when we placed our coffee orders she said something to the effect of "It's going to be awhile because I'm cooking these orders" in a snippy voice. Okay.....fine.....sorry to have bothered you. And we haven't been back since.

Re: “Beyond Bread

We agree with fuzzygoats comment. Another why to put is, all icing and no cake. In other words, the sandwiches are heavy on the bread and rather light on the main ingredients. Moreover, most of the sandwiches are bland tasting as well. But are they better than say Subway? Yeah maybe, but not by that much.
