I've learned that under the guise of "conversation, preservation, education" this place is a creepy museum of stuffed animals that did not die naturally but were shot by "big game hunters" for pleasure and profit. I stupidly took my kids here not giving any thought to what I'd be walking into.

I really like this place. If it were closer I'd probably go a little more often. Tourists should not miss this stop. Not sure why it's called the desert museum. I mean one aspect of the place is museum like. However, it's really a small zoo more than anything else. I'd give them 5 stars if the food was a little better and less expensive.

This is a must see for anyone who has ever daydreamed in miniature, had fantasies of what it would be like if they could fit inside a dollhouse, or marveled, "How'd they do that?" Spent a couple of hours there with a visiting friend and was absolutely fascinated by the whimsical, technical details, historical correctness, and just plain charm of the various exhibits of dolls houses, roomboxes and fantasyland miniatures. My only complaint? More seating throughout the building for my weary feet and sore joints from bending and stooping to see all there was to see! Commit yourself to multiple visits!

Great museum! Only wish they didnt charge 3 dollars. Lots of people who would like to visit may only have a half hour or so because they are downtown for business etc.

It's a great place, but a couple of comments and one secret tip:
1. Bring your own water. They sell water there for too much and the public water fountain is tap water warmed over.
2. Go EARLY. It's the desert. It gets hot. Summer hours begin at 7:30 a.m. Take them up on that.
Secret tip:
Don't go over your credit card limit buying sunscreen from the gift shop if you forgot yours. There is a free sunscreen pump in the restroom (at least in the ladies')!
Otherwise, follow the people in the little vehicles with food. You can get a great look (photo op!) at some of the animals (javelina love carrots) when the docents are feeding them!

I am a handicapped person and I would appreciate some information on this site regarding the closest parking available when visiting Special Collections.
