My husband and I are fairly regular customers at Don's Bayou because we love the good food and pleasant chats with the owners, Don and Teresa. They're such nice people and make us feel welcome as soon as we come in the door. Lately we've been going in on weekend mornings before noon when they serve large mugs of rich coffee (freshly brewed by the cup) and beignets (kind of like a doughnut: a square of fried dough eaten hot and sprinkled with powdered sugar). I know they're adding freshly-cut fruit to their weekend morning menu, too. We haven't tried it yet but intend to do so. The weather has been so beautiful, so we've been enjoying this weekend treat on the patio overlooking the garden area and the Catalinas.
None of their food, much of it deep-fried, is particularly good for the waistline, to which we can personally attest because we can't resist! One of our favorite entree items is the shrimp po'boy. It's plenty spicy with either remoulade or shrimp cocktail sauce , and oh so good! We also love the really thinly sliced, vinegary cabbage coleslaw. The food tends to be expensive, but really fresh seafood IS expensive, even on the coast. The fresh crayfish boil is wonderful and wonderfully messy. It's not always available, so we "liked" Don's on Facebook so we'll be alerted when the high quality crayfish have shipped in. There's a beer on tap that we really like called Andy-Gator. It has a higher alcohol content than normal, and is what we were looking for in a good brew to go with our spicy meals. The only thing we didn't care for were the fries, but who needs them?
This place deserves to be supported by happy, well-fed customers!
Best pizza in town! I can't wait for the Beer Garden to open!
Best Thai food in Town. Been to them all.
The food is good but why don't they clean the place and replace the carpet?
What the hell happened tonight? I ordered for take out they told me 35 mins. I came in 35 mins and had to wait an extra 15-20 minutes. They handed me my soda first and it got warm during that time. I asked them to put it back in the fridge and when I got my pizza they handed me the same warm soda. I got home and the garlic knots were BLACK and hard and if I threw it at a window it would break it. AND we found a short black hair (possibly from facial hair or a male) on the pizza. The pizza was slapped together and the cheese didn't even stick to the crust. I can't even complain to the company because there isn't something to write on the website. I'm totally disappointed and honestly I rather pay more at a different pizzeria (and I live a block away) instead of the crap food and piss poor customer service I just experienced.
Food was just so-so, kinda greasy. They sit a cart of fried rice and other foods right outside the bathroom door off the kitchen, County Health Department would have a fit if they saw that for sure. Very polite and good service but have had better food.
Check your carry out food before you leave the store.
In Alibaba, you'll be charged ($39.99) for a combo (Beef, lamb and ground beef) but they intentionally give you beef steak, double ground beef and no lamb, while they charge you for the price of the lamb in their combo meal. The food is covered professionally and you think you'll have no reason to open the cover and check the food.
When you let them know about it, they admit that was what they gave you and they've charged you for the lamb combo without telling you!!!
They say they do that sometimes to their customers and they don't refund the customer!!!!
Alibaba restaurant lacks business integrity and honesty.
Outstanding food!!! Mary and her staff are wonderful! This is the best Chinese restaurant in Tucson and Pima County!
I've gotta say, I am disappointed in the Speedway store.
Luke's, on Alvernon, is the real deal; the old fellow there is related to the master Italian beef maestro I grew up with in Chicago. He knows his stuff; not so at the other locations which apparently are owned/run by others. Point: dryish beef sandwiches are a no-no. Italian beef has to DRIP and SOP thru the brown bag - you have to wear an apron to eat it. At $6.95 a pop, a customer should be licking their fingers after eating one, and lusting after another.
Go to the Alvernon store; I hope it still delivers.
I love these crepes!!! Both the savory and the sweet crepes are great. The classic Swedish ligon berry is my favorite and the tea flavors are wonderful (for those non-coffee drinkers).
Leruas does stand out because of the best tamales anywhere. The enchiladas are great and the prices are very good. Numerous combination plates equal great deals.
I have been buying from this store for 13 years. I have even ordered fresh turkeys and standing rib roasts. All the food has been wonderful. I drive in from Peoria, AZ every 3-4 months and always stop and fill up the cooler. They even make a wonderful horseradish that is fresh and guaranteed to clear your sinuses. Will be back there in August for more.
The first pizza i consumed from this restaurant, was a regular flat pizza, and, it was quite tasty. i returned, and, ordered a pan pizza. It consisted of a pile of canned tomatoes on top of a bland tasting dough.
Really ron? Give me a break
My family and I are addicted to the great food, good service, and charming atmosphere. sitting outside has that "comfortable" feel. We've tried most dishes on the main menu and have enjoyed every one! Ate there again last Friday and they hit a homerun again!
I think its a rip off. I went with my mom & 2 of my children on Sunday for brunch for Father's Day. They were charging 19.95 per adult with is reasonable but then they said they didn't have a kids price they were charging me 19.95 for my children who were 4 & 5 which I think is ridiculous! Really like they don't make enough money? Half price would've been fine but to pay the same as an adult is crazy!
food is disgusting, bar is more limited than your grand dad's liquor cabinet, and it is an obvious chain... BUT WHO CARES!
Now this is some Italian food! The crispy thin crust pies are excellent. There are also little gems of italian greats all over the menu, such as the shrimp fra diablo...
This place will continue to be in my rotation of eateries.
I find this place gross and a disgrace to italian cuisine. I really hate to bash a local independent restaurant, but frozen, boxed apps, and an absolute flavorless sauce is a sure fire way to not endear yourself to an italian foodie.
The reason why the Joe's special is so popular? That is the only dish containing garlic and the cheese masks the horribly HUNTS tomato sauce.
Step ya game up! Nothing like my "Mama's" cooking.
