Best breakfast spot. Nothing fancy but it's good. Chorizo and eggs.
Skybox needs to add a Fri & Sat night schedule to website. Including a little forecast into the future for planning purposes. This would attract more customers. Another suggestion would be to expand the dance floor.
The company I work with had their anniversary dinner at Azul in May and the entire staff loved the appetizers in the lounge as well as our very delicious dinner. The service was attentive; no one wanted for anything during our visit and all in attendance agreed they would return. Great atmosphere too with amazing views of the Catalinas from the our vantage point. Lovely!
I love this place; first come, first served seating and all homemade breads, cinnamon roles and pies, oh my!! I can usually find a seat late morning between sales calls for a real home cooked breakfast and quick friendly service. The joint is also clean as a whistle and not pricey. What more could you want?
If you have not seen AZ Kenny Tsak & 56 Deluxe you have missed out. This national touring band is sizzling roadhouse blues. They were at the Bisbee Blues Festival in 2008 and they tore the house down. I'll be there Sat at Boondocks.
Great food- I sometimes eat there 2-3 times a week! Their daily soup is usually excellent and the ever-present french onion is the best in town. For late night eats, this is a far better pick than a gross chain like Applebee's or TGIFriday's.
At the sign of the Big Bottle they have the finest unpretentious music venue in town. Great musicians (mostly local, but some blues stars also turn up), a well-used dance floor, pool tables, no pseudos, no pressure to drink. They also put on rockin' benefit performances when the need arises; does that make 'em Boondocks saints?
I live in Chicago and was visiting friends in Tucson. We decided to try Bubby's to see how it measured up. I had the Chicago dog and my husband had a burger. We both thought the food was great. We thought we were back in Chitown for a moment until we looked out and everything was beige. We actually went back again before we left Tucson!
The food is terrific, the decor is fun, and the service is friendly. Try the hand-cut fries. I overheard a little girl say to her mom, "these fries are better than McDonald's". They are that good!!
The Skybox is a great place to go. We think the food is great and so is the service. My favorite band is the Boogie Oogies because they play great dance music and are great entertainers.
You can't beat the food! Being from Chicago, it definitely matches up to the best of them. With the Twin Peaks interchange being completed, it will make it much easier to get to this great restaurant, but it is definitely worth it to make your way out now!
The food is excellent, and very authentic even down to the Gonnella Brand bread used on the beef sandwiches. The decor is bright and the place is clean, ( which is a plus compared with many of its Chicagoland rivals). I too hope they are able to overcome the bad location that they chose.
Hey Caliman what band in Tucson do YOU think is good? Oh by the way have you yet to find a bar or restaurant in Tucson that you actually like because you give thumbs down to everyplace you review.
Gus Balon's has good service and nice size portions but the food could use a little spice. Maybe some black pepper at least. The pies are great when they're fresh but the serve them way past their prime.
Just another lame watering hole really. By the way. Have bars stopped hiring good entertainment around here or is it that all the better bands travel up to Phoenix to play?
Skybox's atmosphere and entertainment are far better than expected for a Tucson watering hole and dance place. The bands on Friday and Saturday evening play oldies and pop and are the best dancing with class Tucson has had to offer in a long time. The servers are very professional and friendly. The food is of good quality and the price is not bad. It far exceeds places on Tanque Verde, Swan and Ft. Lowell, Campbell and River or Campbell and Skyline as a place for professionals to meet on Friday evening.
Simply put, its amazing. Burgers piled high with savory vegetables (even fruit if you desire). Sweet potato fries are a MUST. Service is fun, friendly and helpful.
Friday nights for 80's and Gentlemen! Its the place to be... have met so many great people there. Highly recomend!!
Terrible service. Have been a few different times. Food only so-so. My husband & I ordered a hamburger to split and they tacked on a split plate charge! We don't mind paying a split plate charge when they actually bring additional sides but we're talking about a hamburger that was simply cut in half! When we complained, the waitress was rude and corrected the bill but then threw it across the table at us. Have written two letters to the owner about this incident with zero response. This place obviously does not care about custmer service or service recovery.
Re: “Grill”
Nice little not-so-ordinary place. Good burgers, steak and Cap'n Crunch. Need to renovate the booth seating for my fat butt though.
