Re: “Luke's Italian Beef

These places could use a good scrubbing, but must be ok with
the health department. Have been to Luke's on Ft Lowell as well
as the one on Grant. Big difference in the amount of meat put onto
the sandwiches. Ft. Lowell site knows how to load up the bun,
much more stingy at the Grant location. The Italian Beef is
fantastic!!

Re: “Beyond Bread

I do not understand this places' popularity. Like were is the meat? The sandwiches are hugh only because the bread is hugh with very little filling. And when I eat there which has only been twice in eight years, I worry about chipping a tooth.

Re: “The Daggwood Café

New owners as of March 2012.....maybe a new review is in order? I had a delicious sandwich there today. The place has been completely updated and is clean and appealing. The reggae music was refreshing! Boar's head meats.....what a tasty treat. Yay.

Re: “Luke's Italian Beef

Food is ok. Prices are not. Better value and service elsewhere.

Re: “Luke's Italian Beef

While disappointed with Tucson restaurants overall, I do like to go to Luke's on Ft Lowell. The place is a dive and the people rough around the edges but the sandwiches are good and the fries the best I have ever tasted. Be forewarned, the new Speedway location is under different ownership and the food is not as good especially the fries they are using.

Re: “Luke's Italian Beef

Luke's on Speedway is the best! The staff is outgoing and friendly...and the owner, Jason is a real treat to look at too! Excellent food...will be back soon!

Re: “East Coast Super Subs

My wife and I are from NJ and couldn't wait to try the Italian subs for dinner one night a few weeks ago. It was a big dissapointment. The rolls tasted like they were at least a day old. The cold cuts/provolone are not the best quality and sliced way too thick. The chopped, not sliced cherry peppers are soaked in way too much vinegar, to the point of drowning out the other flavors. There were no seasonings, like a dusting of oregano, and the oil seemed to be a cheap vegtable oil, not a decent olive oil. So...fuggetaboutit. Wouldn't make it in Jersey.

Re: “Luke's Italian Beef

I have been a fan of our local LUKE’S Chicago Hotdog for 20 years of 101 E. Fort Lowell Road (888-8066), 4444 E. Grant Road (321-9236), but I’ve never been to the Luke’s on Thornydale. Not only was the food late getting to us, my order was wrong. I approached the counter to speak with the young lady who had taken our order and explained that I simply ordered two Chicago dogs and fries (which is on their bright yellow menu) and all I’m missing is my second fries. She responded, “you got what you paid for.” I said yes I got part of my order that I paid for but not all of it. She then began to raise her voice in the crowded little place stating that she is not going to give me the fries so, I can take it or get the hell out.
McDonalds has better service than this and there are kids behind the register, this lady was clearly into her fifties and still no common sense of customer service.

Re: “Luke's Italian Beef

We like the meatball subs. Really tangy red sauce. In fact, so tangy (acidic) you may find yourself reaching for the tums afterwards. Our only gripe is that a meatball sandwich should come with cheese. Come on Luke. Meatball parmigiana!

Re: “Eegees

Eegees locally formulated and mixed frozen drinks are one good reason to stay in Tucson during the summer months.

But to me, their food is a reminder of why I do not like "fast food" on generic rolls without a variety of breads availlable -- and I find their portions small for the price. I would rather pay a little more for a better and more thoughfully tastie sandwich -- and even though they are a profit center --- their fries, while good, are supplied in small insifficent portions.

The Eegees tradition of a flavor of the month shows there is some thought in formulating their frozen specialty -- I just they would get around to backberry, rasberry and a few more "tart/sweet" formulas with a little more fequency -- particularly in the summer.

Re: “Beyond Bread

We agree with fuzzygoats comment. Another why to put is, all icing and no cake. In other words, the sandwiches are heavy on the bread and rather light on the main ingredients. Moreover, most of the sandwiches are bland tasting as well. But are they better than say Subway? Yeah maybe, but not by that much.

Re: “Frankie's South Philly Cheesesteaks

Unless you are going to Philly to eat at Geno's or Pat's, handsdown Frankie's is the best and most authentic you will find outside of the Philly area. Yes, the rolls make a huge difference.

Re: “Beyond Bread

Bread is good but I don't want half a loaf for a sandwich. Maybe the build up was too much, but it wasn't the best thing since sliced bread for me.

Re: “Eegees

Eegees food quality has always been great! But I see the menu got a little more expensive when they changed to the newer lower case logo revamp.

Wish their sandwich of the month would be reduced at least a dollar off in price so they were a bit more competitive with that Subway $5 deal. But eegees is great!

Re: “Luke's Italian Beef

Closest thing you'll find to a Chicago hot dog in Tucson. Fries are excellent.
