Re: “The Good Egg

Had Breakfast at their Speedway/Kolb location, Nice clean and new place with great staff but High prices coupled with just OK bland food. The place has not changed since my last visit about 3 years ago. Won't be going back for awhile.

Re: “La Cocina de Gabby

Not fancy but with really well made food. The menu is limited, which in this case, is good, as every thing is home/scratch made. Service is very freindly albeit bit slow, but after a Margarita or two, who cares. This could become a very nice neighborood cantina.

Re: “Grimaldi's

Best pizza in Tucson, hands down. Some people may prefer Brooklyn's but understand that these two places do pizza totally differently. Grimaldi's uses a real coal-fired oven, whereas Brooklyn's uses a standard pizza over. Both places are very good but we like Grimaldi's the best. One thing I gotta ask though. Who on earth orders a big hunk of cheese cake after stuffing their face with pizza?

Re: “Sir Veza's Taco Garage Speedway

We tried it because we were getting hungry and wanted to eat something before shopping at Sunflower Market. Overall we weren't impressed. Sorta ugly building, very average food, slow service. Now we now better.

Re: “Bubby's Chicago Style

Friendly servers but other than that we really weren't impressed with the food. Having lived back east we had great dogs and deli food. Want a really great hot dog? Try a simple Sabrret, Coney Island or Nathan's dog with just a few of the standard toppings. This way you'll actually be able to taste the product. Jalapenos, pickles, mayo... Forget it!

In any case, I wish the business well. However, even with the new on/off ramp now being open the location is unlikely to draw lots of patrons. Let's hope their lease is reasonable. As a former business owner, I know all too well how many hands, (taxes, worker's comp., electric bill, etc..), are in your pocket every month. It's tuff making it.

Re: “Grumpy's Grill

The hamburgers are rather small here. I ordered a guacamole burger and guacamole was more like a watery guacamole sauce, yuk! The fries were OK though. Service is typical Tucson. In other words, nothing special whatsoever. Overall the place isn't terrible. We just won't be rushing back.

Re: “El Charro Café on Broadway

I only gave them three stars, because they put cheese in their guacamole! It is always a sign of bad guacamole when restaurants/suppliers try to stretch out their guac with cheese or sour cream. A little more authenticity would go a long way!

Re: “Shish Kebab House of Tucson

Food is ok but the service is terrible. Last time I went I waited ten minutes for someone to come out to seat us or even acknowledge our existence. Just left. Haven't been back since.

Re: “47 Scott

The patio was perfect for enjoying a bottle of wine on a lazy, sunny afternoon. The bread was fresh and delicious which went well with the mozzarella. The mac n cheese was so yummy and i cannot forget finishing off with warm chocolate chip cookies, vanilla bean ice cream and strawberry sauce!

Re: “La Botana Taco Grill and Cantina

I agree with the last comment. Horrible experience the last time I was having dinner outside. The silverware was dirty, and I saw a cockaroach lying on it's back underneath the next table. I informed those in charge, and no action seemed to be taken. Wonder what the kitchen is full of

Re: “La Botana Taco Grill and Cantina

Yeah the food is good... when you get it! The service is ridiculous!! I guess quality service isn't what it used to be to say the least. I waited an hour for 2 measly tacos, and asked to speak to the manager. He didn't care one bit. Luckily my server did, and even commented that she would've done the same thing. The manager is a coward and an idiot. I refuse to go back!! It's cheap food so I guess it's expected that they don't care either... enjoy!

Re: “Firebirds Wood Fired Grill

I agree with the previous review. Dinner prime rib has been very dissapointing, to the point of almost inedible one time. The wait staff for the most part is very upbeat and courteous, however, the last time we were there for dinner (last fall), my father (70's), asked for prime rib, medium well. It came out medium rare, and the server argued that the piece was medium well, and to deal with it. Needless to say, that ruined our entire evening. My prime rib was so full of grissle that I ate between the lines (literally), and not once did anyone come check on us, until it was check time. We did try to explain (twice, once to waitstaff, and once on the way out to the manager, who was non-existant throughout the entire night), why we left entire meals, but nobody seemed concerned, just explained that they were busy that night....(OK??). IMHO it's gone way downhill, and we won't be back. Too many other places that serve a good steak in town to bother with figuring out if that night's dinner will be acceptable or not or if the wait staff will be courteous or not. (FYI: my father said it would need to be the last place in Tucson before he ever goes back). Now the other items on the menu other than red meat seem to look very good and the appetizers are pretty good. If anyone has a good experience with their steaks/prime rib, and it seems to be coming back to what it used to be, I'd like to hear them, only then will I consider it to be of the same quality as other restaurants in the area...C'mon we're talking La Encantada here....

Re: “Vitello's Ristorante Italiano

the thing that really upsets me is when there is a very hard working family trying there best to please everybody.here comes along somebody to put them down , see they don`t mention that when they use buy one get one free dinners club they order water to drink and keep the bread coming and when they do the wine tasteing the first thing they ask is (IS IT FREE)and then there not even happy and complain so they can get something else for free, some people really don`t now a good thing when the got it. so i say the review that vitellos got in the paper was what this family deserves for all there hard work they have done.so i say to vitellos thumbs up,great job.

Re: “Lovin' Spoonfuls Vegetarian Restaurant

Hello Nate1980, While your intent may be good, you apparently either have too much free time, or you're a frustrated writer. By the way, you do write well. In any case, one or two-liner comments are usually adequate to express one's take on a restaurant experience. For example. Bottom Line: Every time we come to restaurant X the service is awful, but we like the food. Unless one is an exceptional and unbiased writer, multiply paragraph rates have virtually no place here, in my meaningless view.

Re: “Tony's Italian Deli

Little hole in the wall that services alright food. We used a buy one get one free coupon here a few weeks ago. I might go back if we had another coupon.

Re: “Jerry Bob’s

Just came back from eating breakfast here this morning. I suppose it was better than Denny's but that's not saying a whole lot. Anyhow. I took a chance on the biscuits with white gravy. Verdict? Very, very bland gravy over soggy, under cooked biscuits. Unfortunately these greasy spoons are starting to pop up all over filling up otherwise good real estate space. Yeah! Tucson needs more Jerry Bob's like it needs more subpar Mexican restaurants, pawn shops, pay day cash advance stores, smoke shops, and graffiti riddled neighborhoods, right?

So I ask. With restaurants like Jerry Bob's popping up all over, is this a testament that Tucsonians are content with eating at second and third rate restaurants?

Re: “Miss Saigon

Had dinner at their Ina and I-10 location last night. We started off with some spring rolls which were stuffed with about 99% shredded lettuce despite being advertised as coming with shrimp and pork. Rather disappointing but not the end of the word. Our main courses were really good tasting. We both elected to order curry-based dishes. Yum! My only grip was that my dish said it came with prawns. Prawns? Come on! More like medium sized shrimp guys.

I see that a previous commenter mentioned he liked the services at the Campbell location better. In my view the their Ina location restaurant has always been a bit better. Not a huge difference though. May just be the luck of the draw that day. Service wise, neither place is bad. But no doubt the Ina restaurant has better ambiance, plus it's right off the freeway.
