Very nice place and the food was good as well. We had a Gorgonzola gnocchi, pasta in a spicy rosa sauce and a delicious eggplant appetizer. They also had a decent wine list to boot. I would definatley go again.
Been going there for 50 years. Joe's special and the sausage meat pizza, way over the top! Chef Alesi was the best, God rest his soul.
Just like I remembered. This restaurant, located in a shopping center at the northeast corner of Swan & Sunrise, serves up generous portions of tasty Italian food. All the usual dishes are here, plus some steak dishes and the curiously-named Sister Mary Joseph - peppery steak in a thick gravy. It's my wife's favorite and the reason we visited here tonight. A variety of wines complement the various dishes. Pizza served at the bar and from Bazil's To Go. The restaurant is fairly dark and booths have individual rheostats to adjust the lighting to your liking. This was my first visit since the non-smoking ordinance was enacted. Prior to the ordinance, the smoke from the bar (which contains a few TV's and the ever-important restrooms) would spew forth into the restaurant. It's much easier to taste the delicious food and drink now that the smoke is gone. Note to Miss Piggy: leave Kermit the Frog at home else he ends up a paraplegic and the answer to the question "How's Kermie" becomes "Tastes like chicken with a hint of garlic butter."
This restaurant has a variety of Italian and American dishes to suit most tastes. Many of the dishes have house-made mozzarella as an ingredient and I urge you to try one of those (including the pizza). The pizza crust is both crispy and chewy - how they do that I'll never know. The pizzas are very tasty and several have the house-made mozzarella and fresh basil. The wine list has a good selection of wines from around the world and it's easy to find something to go with the excellent food or to just sip while hanging around at the bar. Service has always been prompt and friendly.
consistently good piping hot food. Eggplant Parmesan and Joe's special spaghetti both great and the tiramatsu is the best I've had.
Two stars at the very most. Food is mediocre (service is excellent), and it doesn't take American Express Cards. I'm a business traveler, our business card is American Express, and not accepting American Express is the kind of attitude that keeps travelers away. We can get mediocre food at franchise without the hassle of dipping into our own pockets.
This _was_ La Ferlita's (Feruta's?) and it's been closed for at least four years. Now Giordano's. I liked La Ferlita's pizza better.
I've been fortunate enough to have eaten at Amereno's Little Italy at their old location and the new one and have never been disappointed by the food, service or atmosphere! The Grant Road location is beautifully decorated and the food is as good as ever! I had a bunch of friend's meet me for happy hour recently and thy all raved about the food! The special was seafood in cream sauce with an abundance of fresh seafood the sauce was creamy and velvety! Our server grated cheese at the table for those who wanted some, I didn't ask what kind of cheese it was but it wasn't from a can! The pasta was al-dente and priced right! The clams and mussels are fresh and not over cooked! Great wine list and friendly servers! What more could you ask for? I would (and have) recommended Amereno's for really good authentic Italian food!
Roma is a hidden gem that offers a diverse lunch menu as well as fresh deli items, frozen Italian foods such as lasagnes, sausages and raviolis, and a variety of Italian grocery items. Everything we have even had at Roma is excellent and they also do catering. Highly recommended!! Location is funky (behind Cox building off of Campbell), but once you find it you will keep going back.
Eat here! Service was excellent. Very attentive and quick. Bread warm and crunchy-Spicy shrimp appetizer just spicy enough; should have had an even number of shrimp because we shared. Nice sauce. Both of us had salads with dinner; creamy Grogonzola dressing jammed with nice cheese chunks. He had the shrimp special: excellent, cheese melted on a pasta dish and very creamy. I had linguine aglio e olio: lots and lots of garlic, just the way I like it. Romano cheese grated over all, who needs Parmesan? Good wine specials too. I like this place and Jewell can get her Parmesan somewhere else if she can't live without it! ps good music though I wanted more opera!
Best homemade Italian food I have ever had!!! Friendly owners that come out and greet you and make you feel like family! Wonderful environment that also makes you feel like you are in a little Caffe in Italy! I love this Resturant!
I can not tell you how great this restaurant is! I had the Polla Russo and found myself not wanting to finish the dish just so I could have same later. WOW, I am very particular and feel that every part of this restaurant was absolutely fabulous! Can not wait to return!
The best Italian food anywhere in Tucson, and the steaks, pork chops, and seafood dishes are out of this world.
When I eat at Contessa Cafe I am taken back to my Noni's table in Le Scotte Seina Itlay. On one visit I had egg plant lasagna that was so delicious that I wanted to eat nothing but it. I relented and had baked ziti also very, very good. I've only had their canoli's for dessert so I can't comment personally about the rest of the desserts but my husband loved the cheese cake. The food here isn't processed and is homestyle and may not win awards for most creative cooking around, but for those of us who are Italian, sticking to the traditional way of fixing something is best and Contessa sticks with what is best. Were I able to, I would eat here every day, or at least often. You should too.
This place is over-rated and over-priced.
They don't have parmesan cheese. I sprinkled the cheese brought to the table onto my pasta, it ruined the dish because it was so salty and strong. I asked what it was, after all, Italian restaurants provide you with parmesan to accompany your meal. NOT HERE! It was Romano, so I asked for parmesan and was told they don't have any. It's on the menu; chicken parmesan, veal parmesan. What are they using in the kitchen? The sauce that Mama Amareno makes is so-so, nothing to write home about. I make better marinara.
This place moved to Country Club and Grant, me thinks I won't bother returning. What kind of Italian restaurant doesn't have parmesan cheese?
Always a great place to eat if you are willing to spend the cash (menu is expensive but made fresh). Great wine list and great (but small) selection of dishes. The appetizers are really good too. Would not recommend the veal because of recent investigations that indicate the use of ham instead of veal.
