I found Saffron to be representative of proper Indian cookery. Admittedly, the buffet was OK, being aimed at an inquisitive, yet, uninitiated visitors. The real treats, however, are to be found by ordering off of the menu. Saffron's lamb Korma took me back to the days of watching my Mom and Grandma cooking Indian-inspired Indonesian fare. The smells of garlic, tumeric, bay, lemon grass and varied curries wafting from the kitchen was borderline intoxicating. Saffron's Owner and Kitchen staff know what they are doing.

I've really enjoyed eating here for dinner, but the buffet that everyone is raving about was REALLY DISSAPOINTING. Have the people who love this buffet ever had the buffet at Sher-E-Punjab??? It's TEN TIMES better, more variety, and cheaper.

BEST FOOD, BEST SERVICE, BEST PRICE. All the people that rave about Gandhi's either don't know indian cuisine, or they haven't eaten at Sher-E-Punjab.....leaps and bounds above the rest in town.

I can only comment of the lunch buffet. Items ordered off the straight menu items may taste much better? In any case, most of the buffet food is entirely too bland. The saag is super blah tasting and has a watery consistency, both times we went the tandoori chicken was cold and the meat is all dark meat. Service is average.
Some people say that buffet food is usually prepared bland because some people don't like spicy, aka flavorful food. I disagree, especially when it comes to such ethnic foods like Indian. While items need not be prepared too hot, that's doesn't mean it still can't be made flavorful with milder, yet tasty spices. On a positive note. $10, minus drink and tip of course, can fill you up to the brim. However, I doubt you'll be telling your friends how awesome the food is. IMO

This place is amazing!! I have been to many other Indian restaurants and this one is by far the BOMB!!!! LOVE IT!

I moved to SE Arizona in 2007 and immediately starting looking for a first-class Indian restaurant. I believe that I have eaten at at least 75% of the Indian restaurants in Tucson and the surrounding area.
Simply put, Saffron Indian Bistro is the best Indian restaurant I have eaten at in Tucson, bar none. Nothing else even comes close. The sauces are exquisite, the meats are cooked to perfection, the rice is perfect, and the selection is broad. I have eaten at Saffron on at least 20 different occasions and have never had a meal that was less than excellent. The service has ranged from very good to excellent.
The owner of the Indian grocers where I get my supplies for home told me it is the only Indian restaurant that he will take his wife to.
I've eaten in fine Indian restaurants in NYC, London and other major cities in the US and Europe. Saffron holds there own against them and is among the five best Indian restaurants I have ever eaten in.

Absolutely love the family meal for four, vegetarian. A variety of flavors and the table was filled with dishes. We find the lunch buffets rather bland, so we ordered medium high heat. Sher-E-Punjab did not disappoint. We appreciated the distinctive flavor of each dish. Samosas were fresh out of the fryer, hot and crispy on the outside, creamy seasoned potato on the interior.
Some places might be fancier but this is one good restaurant that is overlooked.

The food here is better than most of the other more expensive Indian joints around town.

I concur on the lunch buffet - truly outstanding! The whole menu is budget priced without compromise in quality. The staff are a bit surly but,nevertheless, attentive. You must check it out if you like Indian fare.

I can honestly say that I have eaten at EVERY Indian food joint in Tucson and the food here is on par with the best of them. What makes this place different is that it is clean. My other favorite place has food that is just as good, but I worry what happens behind the scenes in the kitchen.
