I am distressed over the city's collective obcession over weed, THC, and the obsessive focus on marijuana for medical purposes. You know and I know when (not if) it becomes legal for wider distribution, and it will, that massive amounts of money are to be made, and the elements that now flood Colorado will soon hit Tucson's front doors. I would prefer collective media in this town to just be up front with us and let it all hang out: you want it here, you can't wait, and some of you hope to cash in on what for most of us has been a life time of really rotten wages.
Colorado's wage base has always been better than ours, I know, I left here in 1990, lived there for 10 years and made far more coin than I ever did here. Legalizing pot here will change the wage profiles almost overnight. Howsomever, it should be noted that Colorado's governor has recently said it was a mistake. No further details are available.
I know Colorado, and the nails rimming the coffin are a good example for us to follow closely. We should check it out before jumping into that bed, completely.
We have water. MO Udall stole it.
Timmothy, I guess you missed this ed note from January:
Still no explanation as to why a number of features have been dropped.
What's going on ? New owners dictating ?
Arizona is preparing for its own water crisis by sitting idly by as the city of Benson gets ready to approve a new city three miles south of I-10 in the shadow of the Whetstone Mountains stretching east nearly to the San Pedro River. How about 70,000 more people living in a faux Tuscan town, the Villages at Vegneto? All brought to us by a Phoenix headquartered corporation, El Dorado Holdings, Inc., doing business locally as El Dorado Benson LLC, with investors from all over the country. Get ready for rural Arizona dotted with a brand new golf course or golf courses, vineyards and orchards!, a new resort, eight story commercial office buildings and more. Potential effects on the San Pedro River and its St. David Cienega? Potential effects on the San Pedro as it courses through Cascabel and through Dudleyville, where Gray Hawks and Mississippi Kites nest in verdant cottonwood trees? Here's a chance to have a real impact. The new city was approved 6-0 by the Benson P&Z this week. Next Monday, April 13, at 7 p.m., the developer's plan will be voted on the Benson City Council. Write a letter now to the mayor of Benson and the city council (all email addresses are online at the city of Benson web page). Also, attend the meeting, if you can. El Dorado Holdings pops into rural areas like Benson, Maricopa and Buckeye to build its new cities and it hopes no one is watching. This is a water crisis waiting to happen!
SRG, you have freedom of religion, also the freedom to watch your business collapse when word gets out on how you treat customers. Not sure what church you attend but pretty sure God has the whole judgement of sin thing under control and probably doesn't need help; "all have sinned, none are righteous" is how that goes.
Why not put your business name up here to keep those Sodomites away?
You need to understand the difference between hate and disagreement. If a homosexual came into my graphics arts business and told me he was opening a restaurant and wanted me to bid for the graphics needed, I would say yes, fine. If he wanted me to bid on his new bath house opening, I would say no. I wouldn't want to participate in celebrating the homosexual lifestyle, due to the fact the Bible says it is an abomination to the Creator. But the push for homosexual "rights" is becoming a bit fascist now that the law has declared that the anus is a sex organ in these here United States. We have the right of association and freedom of religion.
Thanks to the Tucson Weekly for helping the LGBTI community have equal standing for news coverage and events offered in Tucson. It makes life much kinder when we are openly recognized and treated with respect. It also brings that respect into view for others who still need to learn.
We are in the Alice through the Looking Glass age now where the ALEC/Koch's have the money and position to ram through any legislation they want; the goal always being divide and conquer. Keep their attention here so we can erode democracy there, and saddest of all, make no pretense about it.
It is only informed public outrage that somewhat keeps it in check, and our thanks to TW for always keeping the information in or faces
Ed...sure would like an explanation as to why so many features have been discontinued. Comics, 9 questions and a number of features gone.
Why. Who gave the orders to drop 'em.
In town decision or new owner decision. ?
Spending less so the new owner can take more out of Tucson ?
In a badly written sentence Tina rants:
"You people suck i posted two comments and they were removed...just shows how truly racist you are only Whites and Mexicans allowed.'
If you read some of my past comments you can note that I don't suffer the fools at the TW gladly. I was even (temporarily) "banned" once for tweaking a past editor and bruising his feelings.
Clearly, I haven't seen the posts that you refer to; perhaps there was some indication in them. If so, I apologize; otherwise, it appears that I have not given TW staff enough credit. For them to glean that you are neither white nor brown displays remarkable clairvoyance.
Hate is hate right?, like the death threats and the out of town crackpot who went on social media to enlist others to join her to go to Indiana to "bomb" the ladies' pizzeria (who looks like she might be facing federal terrorist charges) For every business person who doesn't want to accommodate gay weddings, there are hundreds who will. Stop the bullshit and media frenzy. Jim Crow, Ya.
You people suck i posted two comments and they were removed...just shows how truly racist you are only Whites and Mexicans allowed.
We love her a lot.
You are a good leader, Mari, for saying these things. We're all not so lucky - and have crappy managers (note the difference in words) who shit all over us and then expect us to do great work.
Hope your staff appreciates you as much as you appreciate them.
Although I didn't always (almost never) agreed with Jimmy Boegle, but when he wanted to share some feelings, he wrote this:
My comments followed.
I believe that I wrote something this awful once---in junior high school.
Facebook? Not me.
That's 10. Slow down.
What happened to 9 questions ???
