I wonder why the market can bear to pay teachers what doctors and lawyers earn in some countries but not in the richest nation on earth? Is it really about being a capitalistic society, or is it really about what a society values?
This study doesn't surprise me. When consumption comprises 70% of the economy it's no surprise that the economy does better with the party that at least nominally pursues policies that are aimed at helping everyone as opposed to the party that pursues policies that extract money and protect the wealth of the rich.
Rat...if you don't remember character assignation back they, then you weren't paying attention.
Robert Rubin was a GS insider. I don't remember character assassination back then.
Let Wall Street regulate itself and two failed wars on the company credit card; what did we expect.
When Wall Street imploded (big surprise) Bush sent in a Goldman Sachs insider, Hank Paulson to give out trillions, then since it was the end of his term, he walked away.
Timothy, the authors of the book are quoted:
"They argue that random economic fluctuations best explain the differences in growth between 1947 and 2013, and not which party happens to hold the White House.
Random economic fluctuations. They make the case that neither party solves the problem. I'm good with that.
Keep kidding yourselves...Warren Buffet endorsed his plan and then turned on it, once he saw profit. Goodbye Burger King.
To you shallow thinkers. Economies don't turn around in a year or two, unless real tax relief has been accomplished.
JFK did it. And it worked.
RatT...I was wondering how long it would take you to look up that argument on the internet and post it here. Same old right wing excuse.....it's just a matter of luck.
No it's not.
RatT...The pres had a plan. It worked. It kept us out of what would have been a Bush/republican caused depression.
We went from what could have been a disaster to a recovering economy.
Perhaps you haven't wished to take notice.
Brad Plummer of the Washington Post disagrees:
One possible explanation is that Democratic policies are better for economic growth. Another is that Republican policies are better for growth — but there's a time lag, so Democrats tend to benefit.
Alternatively, perhaps Democrats simply have better economic luck. That third theory is one favored by economists Alan Blinder and Mark Watson in their new working paper, “Presidents and the Economy: A Forensic Investigation”. They argue that random economic fluctuations best explain the differences in growth between 1947 and 2013, and not which party happens to hold the White House.
"Democrats would no doubt like to attribute the large D-R growth gap to better macroeconomic policies, but the data do not support such a claim.”
"Economists didn't build that."
The President has no plan to deal with the economy.
economics is a social science, not a real science. they manufacture consent with numbers every day.
Inconvenient truth. Hence, the trolls are strangely quiet.
While this particular columnist appears to have a problem with Doug, I can speak only of his integrity and character. I grew up in the same house with him, and he's been a born leader all of his life. I'm not much into politics myself, but I do know that Doug won't have to spend anytime or energy apologizing for behavior that so many of our National leaders have to do daily. He was an awesome role model all through growing up and into college and beyond. My parents divorced when Doug and I were young, and he was the most important influence in my life. He married his college sweetheart, is in the process of raising three incredible boys, and is an avid father and husband. I'm always amazed every time my family visits Doug, to see the values he instills in his boys, and the way he treats his wife. I realize this columnist needs to sell papers, but I'd ask him to get to know Doug before he continues with his rants. He is a great man, and I'm proud to call him my brother. I realize I have a biased opinion of Doug, but those who know him best would say the same. Best of luck to all the candidates in November, but I'm pulling for Doug. Regards-Nick Ducey
Bob, perhaps you and Sam could get a 2 for 1 deal.
Face it folks, Arizona Republicans will vote for whoever proves that he/she hates the Black President and Brown People the most as this reflects their "values"
Shameful, isn't it?
The G.O.P. stole from education? They took away our right to vote and the rights of women? They are on a par with a violent terrorist group? Sam, please take this advice in the spirit in which it is given. Get yourself some professional help.
Sam, I love the picture of the Koala Bear, my picture is of St Philips Island near Melbourne with the "fairy piquins". They march out to sea every morning to feed, then at night to their homes on the Island. Been to Au twice love it. The Aussies are true keepers that honor the environment.
Voters this state has hit the bottom under Republican rule. Look how they stole from education. Look how they have taken away our right to vote. And taken away the rights of women. Republicans are the real ISIS of this state and nation.
What on earth does the Governorship of Arizona have to do with the President?
