8 Events to Help You Celebrate Memorial Day

Memorial day is the federal holiday dedicated to remembering those who have died while serving in our country's armed forces.  

Looking for something to do this Memorial weekend? Here's a list to keep you busy in and around the Tucson area. 

Hymns for Our Heroes 

Santa Cruz Summer Winds and the Jazz Collective of Southern Arizona is hosting "Hymns for Our Heroes" a memorial day salute to those who have died. They will be performing at Community Performance & Art Center, 1250 W. Continental Road on Monday, May 30. For more information visit their website. 

Blue Star Museums

Swim Season Opens

All nine of Pima County's pools will open for Memorial Day weekend, Saturday May 28 through Labor Day. For more information on prices and specific locations visit their website

Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony
Held at Tucson Estates, Kenny Road and Western Way, Monday, May 30, the American Legion Post 102 and AMVETs Post 770 invite you to remember those who served. The parade begins at 8 p.m. and the memorial ceremony begins at 9 a.m. 

Spring into Summer with Old Tucson
A collaborative effort by the Arizona Sonora Western Heritage Foundation and Old Tucson, this Saturday, May 28 through May 30 Old Tucson will kick-off summer. A family fun event, they will showcase ideas for summer fun and offer free admission for kids ages 11 and under. Park hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., for more information visit their website. 

Pool Party and Parade
The Eastern Hills Aquatic Club, 981 E. Evelyn Ave, invite all ages to check out a parade at 10 a.m. at Anna Henry Elementary School and then march over to the pool to enjoy a relaxing swim for free, on Monday, May 30. For more information visit their website. 

Memorial Day Ceremony
Open and free to the public, U.S. Army Fort Huachuca will be honoring America's veterans and those fallen during its annual ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday May, 30. For more information visit their Facebook event page

3.5 Mile Run/Walk
Wake up bright and early Monday, May 30 and participate in the fourth annual 3.5 mile run/walk at 7 a.m. along Camino Campestre. There's also a one mile fun run available for those wanting to take it easy. For more information visit their website
