Buddy Guy: The Legend Lingers

Buddy Guy

Folks are still talking about Buddy Guy's set at the Rialto Theatre last Friday, Oct. 25. Guy is among the pioneers of the Chicago style of electric blues, stolen outright by rock bands of the 60s and 70s, and played to this day in local clubs and bars throughout the world. His shows are an important reality check: They temper our tolerance for cheap imitations.

Check out the Rialto's promo bio for a list of awards he's earned (hint: all of them). But musicians can go to school on his crowd management, too. He makes it look easy to hold a thousand people in the palm of his hand.

C. Elliott's photos give a sense of that trademark style of absolutely commanding an audience. Wish I'd been there. How about you?
