How the Fourth Avenue Street Fair Will Learn To Live With the Modern Streetcar

Kurt Tallis, marketing and events director of the Fourth Avenue Merchants Association, tells The Range via email that the Fourth Avenue Street Fair will continue after the modern streetcar begins running between the UA and downtown:

The 4th Avenue Street Fair will continue after the Modern Streetcar starts running. Yes, there is still life in the old lady. Starting the Winter Fair December 13-15, 2013, the Street Fair will end at O'Malley's instead of at the Fourth Avenue Underpass. The lost block (Eighth Street to Ninth Street) will be picked-up by placing the artists on Seventh Street going west. Sort of like a lopsided "T," so the Fair will run from University Boulevard south to Eighth Street, as well as Seventh Street from Fourth Avenue to Sixth Avenue.

Tallis explained that the streetcar will deliver people to the street fair from the downtown parking garages and the UA parking garages.

There are switches at Ninth Street and University Boulevard.

At the south end of the Fair, the modern streetcar will come out of the 4th Avenue underpass and unload passengers at the stop in front of The Shanty and then pull forward (north towards Eighth Street, in front of O'Malley's) and switch over to the other track (going south) and go back downtown. Remember the Fair will then start at The Hut on the south end of the Fair.

On University Boulevard. the modern streetcar will travel west to Fourth Avenue and unload passengers at the Time Market stop, proceed west and switch over to the lane going back east and proceed in that direction picking up people from the university parking lots.
