Loughner Not Competent to Stand Trial

Posted by on Wed, May 25, 2011 at 12:25 PM

From Jim Nintzel: As expected, both the defense and prosecutors agreed at a hearing today that Jared Lee Loughner is not competent to stand trial.

He will be transferred into the custody of the U.S. Attorney General's Office for treatment to be restored to competency.

The next hearing in the case is slated for Sept. 21.

The hearing was briefly interrupted when Loughner shouted, "Thank you for the freak show. She died in front of me," during a discussion on records releases.

More to come shortly.
