Where We're At Right Now

Posted By on Sun, Jan 9, 2011 at 8:49 AM

It's still a little early for much new news from last night, but we should learn a lot this morning, between the press conference at UMC at 10 am and a Sheriff's office press conference at 11. Still, there are a few news items before those events roll around:

The Pima County Sheriff's Office is looking a man in his 40's or 50's who was inside Safeway yesterday and apparently walked in with Jared Loughner.

— Ten victims are still at University Medical Center: Five are listed in serious condition, five in critical condition (which includes Rep. Giffords).

— If you have O Positive or O Negative blood, the Red Cross asks that you donate today. I have O Negative blood and am among the laziest human beings on earth and I'm heading over today, for what it's worth.

— In some good news, Politico reported that Rep. Giffords "had briefly awakened Saturday night in her hospital room and recognized her husband, Navy Capt. Mark Kelly."

— Heroic stories from yesterday are starting to emerge, including of Daniel Hernandez, a junior at the University of Arizona, who may have saved Rep. Giffords' life.

— For obvious reasons, the Safeway shopping center on the southeast corner of Ina and Oracle where the shooting occurred remains closed.

We'll update The Range, Facebook and Twitter as developments occur today.
