In an effort to find a way to balance Tucson's budget, Ward 6 Councilwoman Nina Trasoff is wondering whether the city can get a piece of the action on strip-club cover charges.
A memo from Nina to City Manager Mike Letcher:
Subject: Per Person Fee to Adult Entertainment VenuesIn an effort to further diversify revenue sources for the City of Tucson, please research the legality of a per person fee levied at adult entertainment venues.
If this fee is legal, please run figures on possible revenue generated at rates of $1.50, $3 and $5 per person.

Dear Nina,
Understanding that this tax would target a specific gender, allow me to propose some further diversifying taxes: Tax on wine spritzers; Tax on Indigo Girls concerts; and, Tax on saying "Oh my God, like, I so know!"
Thank you.
How about a bar tax period, this would be per person cover charges for any bar, and would lessen the ammount taxed. Say 50 cents per cover charge, or a fee based on a percentage so places with lower cover fees would not be made to pay a stiffer ammount.
I don't understand the bar charge as who would want to cough up 50 cents just for walking in the door when there isn't a band or other entertainment going on. It also may require a door person at every bar, an added expense, to collect two quarters from everyone (God help them if you show up with plastic). I can see raising the tax on alcohol in general, though. In response to a Governor's cut that's what Washington state is doing come August on hard liquor sales, which the liquor board sells at the liquor stores (which, incidentally, carry shitty hours).
Why don't we just tax Nina Trasoff $5 for every hair-brained scheme or better yet, every time she changes her friggin' mind.
We'd have the budget balanced in no time.
