The UA College of Fine Arts reports:

The University of Arizona "Pride of Arizona" Marching Band, directed by Professor Jay C. Rees, has received the prestigious honor of being selected by the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) as one of the top five marching bands in the country for the band's 2008 "Weather Report" field show.

This is the second time that the CBDNA competition has been held and marks the first year that the UA "Pride of Arizona" Marching Band has received the honor. A video performance of the band's "Weather Report" show will be featured in a special presentation at the annual CBDNA national conference on March 27 at the University of Texas in Austin.

The other four bands that won the competition are from the University of California Los Angeles, Colorado State University, Texas Christian University and Western Carolina University.

How many other schools were in the competition? Two? The Marching Band may be the Pride of Arizona but they've never been very entertaining, musically or marching-wise. Now if you want to see a fun, entertaining college marching band, check out the University of Wisconsin band. They are amazing. people stay after the game to watch them play! For years they were the only reason to go to a game. I'm happy for the U of A, but I am not a big fan.

Um, there's a difference between being GOOD and being entertaining for a bunch of drunken fans. That's why they were chosen. Maybe if the public listened to a bit less of crappy Katy Perry comments like yours, Rita, wouldn't exist.

I bet you clapped along to didn't you? I know I did! Oh and the laughs! Laughs galore. I'm with you Rita. Wisconsin is super best! Go Cheese Heads! Question and I don't mean no disrespect but would ever consider posing for a Tucson Weekly swimsuit cover? I bet it would be so hot! Keep up the good work!

Im sure the UoW is a fine band but were they ranked in the top 5...nah. This was based on all the universities in the nation and that means more than playing Stand tunes after a UoW game to a bunch of drunk people. We are not your "normal" college marching band that plays easy modern pops tunes; were a competitive group that strives to achieve perfection and just because you aren't entertained because we didnt play Lady Gaga or some Rap, or Pop tune that u can say things like that. Bear Down
